The Trail of the Century by French Kicks
This is one of my favorite songs from the past decade. Something about the feeling I get around the 2:38 mark on. It makes me feel very “ok” with whatever is going to happen.

The EP format has been around longer than the LP format, and it seems to be making a comeback as of late. This year there were tote-loads of quality EPs (partial thanks to Bandcampy for that) and we had a tough time limiting this list to 5.

TV Girl samples “Hello It’s Me” by Todd Rundgren in “If You Want It”

Damn you TV Girl for taking my idea and having a dope name. You didn’t just use the horn breakdown tho. No, you had to use the whole f’ing hook. Actually, I’m not too mad because your new melody goes perfectly with the sample like avocado in tomato soup.
Previously, Todd Rundgren is a genius.
The Sea of Cortez - Testing the Waters EP
Today we released an EP that contains
- the single “The Shores”
- a club-worthy remix of “The Shores” with a new melody, beat, and vibe by the founding members Thomas, Christian, and Donald
- a live studio version of an older song, “High And Low”, performed by the current lineup (including Trevor on drums and me on keys), engineered by Kelly Winrich of Delta Spirit
- an unreleased instrumental track crafted mainly by Thomas
A mini-tour of the West Coast is this week, followed by some local dates.
