Beach Foam by Future Islands

I’m not really the one who places much weight on lyrics. Once in awhile a line will jump out that I can related to and it basically serves as the lyrical theme for the melody.
This song by Bmore’s Future Islands (fantastic live, btdubs) caught my ear with its slow paced groove. Very sunsety, reflective, and at peace with itself— in a “last moment on earth” type of way. The lyrics really push the song’s appeal over the top; a perfect match up with the mood of the instrumentals.
Standing on a beach somewhere
Looking for something to see
As the beach rolls in, I swear
It’s bringing something to me
Baby, one day I’ll have what I want:
Someone to stand next to me
But until then, I’ll just wait and watch
As the pull rolls into me
Beach foam baby
Midnight baby
Beach foam, beach foam baby
Midnight baby, midnight baby
Midnight
Standing on a shore somewhere
Looking for something to be
As the beach rolls in, I swear
It’s bringing something to me

The Day Farrah Fawcett Died Lyrics
birds in the air
never chirped the same
slobs in bowling alleys
never burped the same
they came to cry
shocked with disbelief
a broken mass of millions
all drowning in their grief
she was just an innocent
how could you lord?
they cried the day
that farrah fawcett died
Throughout the globe
every chinese man and turk
their unifying symbol
they really liked her work
but who’s to blame?
no one made a move
until i find out who did this
nobody leaves the room
they say the road was icy
but that just don’t add up
a bushy-haired intruder
another government cover up!
a drug-related overdose
a hunting accident
death at the hands of another,
i’ll bet!
first JFK
and then we lost the king
thank god it must be over now
they say they come in threes
but still i ache
the world has lost a friend
i’ll trade all
of my viewmaster reels
to see her once again

Intentions by Whitest Boy Alive
I was really impressed with WBA’s last album (specifically this song). The main dude is in another killer band: Kings of Convenience.
The new WBA album is a tight nugget of lightweight disco smoothness, relying much more on jazzy synth lines than the debut. It’s like a toned down version of Cut Copy with more guitar (clean and jazzy, think Karate). The lyrics are straightforward and honest, and his voice couldn’t be a more perfect carrier for them.
hey, you can’t own me
don’t let that be a reason not to stay
hey, you can’t own me
don’t let that be a reason to run a way
announcing your intentions
it’s easier said than done
I really like the song posted above because of the jazz progression near the end of the song. The rest of the songs on the album are more upbeat and “dancey”.
