Honestly sometimes I do play the naive role like ‘Oh, we’re just going to go back and smoke a joint and watch TV’.

Cavalcade by Extraperlo

I think this band from Barce will blow up stateside with the altbros and tuggles.  Definitely danceable.  Definitely carefree. Definitely impossible to find mp3s of.

Have A Cigar by Dert Floyd

LA based producer Dert sampled a bunch of Pink Floyd and created a bunch of killer tracks.  They’re all named “Untitled” but I’m renaming them based on the most dominant sample.  Some are pretty tough; Dert digs back to Atom Heart Mother (and maybe further).

The smoother tracks remind me of Pogo while the beat-heavy cuts bring to mind MF Doom’s Special Herbs series.  Some songs (like “Have A Cigar”) have a glammy, Kanye West vibe.

Download the entire album Westside of the Moon and help me out with renaming the songs.

Relief by Cold War Kids

I fell in love with the Kids at The Casbah in San Diego.  Dr. Dog and Elvis Perkins were the openers and Delta Spirit were rolling cigs in the back patio.  I consider Cold War Kids and Dr. Dog among my favorite bands of recent times.

That being said, I’m not a huge fan of the new Cold War Kids album.  However, it has some standout tracks like “Relief”.  The low end synth with the low guitar line are able to play off each other with minimal interference.   The faint harmony during the chorus makes the hook eerie and memorable.  Much slower paced than the songs I dug off their debut EPs.  I would like to see them play it live.

Backworlds by Lusk

Lusk is a side project of a guy in TOOL.  You would never guess it from this song.  They won a Grammy for best album packaging.  The album is solid.  It was released when I was a freshman in high school.  Still holds up today.

Be prepared for the ending of the song.

Density by Sam Prekop

Sam Prekop is 1/2 of The Sea and Cake.  I just came across his second solo album (2005) recently and keep returning to it because it reminds me so much of other bands that I like: Kings of Convenience, Karate, Maritime, The Changes, Whitest Boy Alive, and Axe Riverboy.

The new Sea and Cake album is equally as strong (I can’t tell where Sam ends and The Sea and Cake begins).  It’s called Car Alarm.  The title track is my favorite so far.
